Security Analyst, Colonel Festus Aboagye (Rtd), has strongly criticised the country’s national security apparatus for failing to promptly inform President John Mahama about the entry of suspicious flights into the country.

He asserted that timely intelligence is critical to national security, allowing the government to act swiftly against potential threats.

In response to mounting concerns, President John Mahama has ordered the national security and relevant agencies to launch a full-scale investigation into two aircraft that landed in Ghana earlier in March before departing for Gran Canaria, Spain, on March 25.

The directive follows allegations from the Minority in Parliament, who suspect that the flights—an air ambulance and a private jet—may have been linked to drug trafficking or money laundering.

“This matter requires urgent clarification. I have instructed the appropriate agencies to investigate and provide a full report on these flights,” President Mahama stated in a tweet.

Mr. Aboagye warned that failure to report such critical security matters could leave the nation exposed to illicit activities, including transnational crime.

He stressed that a robust security framework depends on proactive intelligence sharing, and any lapses in this process weaken national stability and public trust.

He called on authorities to strengthen surveillance, enhance coordination, and ensure that all suspicious activities are immediately escalated to the highest levels of government for decisive action.

Background

John Ntim Fordjour, the Minority’s Ranking Member on the Defence and Interior Committee, previously claimed that one of the aircraft, Air MED flight L823 AM, landed in Ghana on March 20 and remained for five days without any record of transporting a patient.

Additionally, a private jet, Antonov 12B, arrived on March 12 and left on the same day as the air ambulance, further fuelling suspicions.

President Mahama has urged security agencies to fully cooperate with the MP to ensure a comprehensive investigation. He emphasised that no effort should be spared in uncovering the truth and taking decisive action against any criminal activity.

“We must not allow Ghana’s airspace to be exploited for illicit activities. This investigation will ensure we uphold the integrity of our aviation sector,” the president declared.

He reiterated that transparency and accountability are essential in safeguarding national security and maintaining public confidence.
