Daniel Owusu Koranteng, the prime suspect in the murder of investigative journalist Ahmed Suale, has been formally charged with abetment to commit murder and murder.

This follows a revision of the initial charges by state prosecutors.

On April 2, 2025, Chief Inspector Nana Afua Bamfo informed the court that Koranteng led two accomplices, who are still at large, to the residence of Ahmed Suale, where he was shot and killed by unknown assailants.

Koranteng now faces charges of aiding and abetting the two fugitive suspects, as well as being directly involved in the murder.

The prosecution explained that tensions over the investigative journalist’s work had escalated when former MP Kennedy Agyapong publicly broadcast Suale’s images in 2018, calling for retribution.

Following the broadcast, Suale confronted Koranteng after discovering he had provided Agyapong with his photographs.

On January 16, 2019, Suale was murdered in Madina, shortly after these events. Investigations have revealed that Koranteng, aware of Suale’s residence, led the two other suspects to the journalist’s home, where the fatal shooting took place.

Following the arrest and detention, Daniel Koranteng’s defence counsel, Kofi Essel Hackman, requested bail, citing that his client had been in custody since March 12.

However, the prosecution opposed the application, emphasising that further investigations were underway and that granting bail could hinder the process. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the other suspects.

The court, presided over by Judge Susan Nyarkotey, has remanded Koranteng in custody until his next appearance on April 17.
