The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has initiated an investigation into an incident involving the alleged assault of three civilians by seven military personnel in Kumasi on March 28, 2025.

The officers involved, three senior officers and four soldiers, reportedly arrested and assaulted the civilians based on accusations of stealing a mobile phone belonging to another person.

In a statement released on April 2, 2025, the Military High Command acknowledged that the civilians incurred various injuries and pledged a thorough probe into the matter.

The statement added that the military police, in collaboration with the Ashanti Regional Police CID, are now overseeing the investigation to determine the facts surrounding the incident. The accused personnel are under arrest as the inquiry proceeds.

Brigadier General E. Aggrey-Quashie, Director General of Public Relations for the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), called on the public to stay calm and allow the investigative process to unfold.

“We urge the families and friends of the victims to remain calm and await the outcome of the investigations,” he stated.

The Military High Command has vowed that any personnel found guilty of misconduct will face legal consequences, reaffirming its commitment to discipline and accountability within the ranks.

This incident has ignited conversations regarding military conduct and civilians’ rights, with many closely monitoring the investigation’s outcome and potential actions from GAF.
