The Energy Minister, John Jinapor, has revealed that 40 missing containers belonging to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) have been traced to an Indian national.

This comes after an investigative report on ECG’s operations revealed that more than 1,300 containers that were supposed to be cleared at the Tema Port could not be accounted for.

The chairman of the committee that conducted the investigation, Professor Innocent Senyo Acquah, disclosed that while ECG claimed to have 2,491 uncleared containers, an independent audit at the port found only 1,134.

The containers carry cables and other equipment belonging to the electricity supplier.

In a latest update on the report on Thursday, March 27, 2025, the Energy Minister said they have retrieved 40 of the containers from a warehouse in Kpone after the arrest of the Indian national by the National Security.

Mr. Jinapor added that the Indian man told the operatives during interrogation that he bought the containers last year.

“The briefing I got this morning and let me commend the National Security Operatives and the law enforcement agencies, the information I got is that already they’ve traced about 40 of them to a particular terminal warehouse in Kpone which belonged to an Indian man and they have confiscated all the 40 containers and moved them to a secured location.

“The man indicates that those containers were sold to him last year and so that’s a matter of investigation that law enforcement agencies would ensure that the law takes its course,” he disclosed in an interview on TV3.

Meanwhile, he said the National Security operatives are still picking up intelligence to retrieve more of the containers.

He further assured that a full-scale investigation by the Attorney-General and police would be conducted to track down the missing ECG containers or recover their monetary value.
