President John Dramani Mahama has applauded Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the former Vice President of Ghana and flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party(NPP) in the 2024 election, for his early concession following the outcome of the results.

President Mahama during his inaugural ceremony as Ghana’s next President, commended Dr Bawumia for his role in easing tensions in Ghana after the election.

He added that Bawumia’s swift acceptance of the electoral outcome helped foster a sense of peace and stability.

“Your early concession was not only a demonstration of your statesmanship but also an act that contributed immensely to reducing tensions across the nation,” President Mahama said.

He further noted that this gesture was vital in maintaining Ghana’s reputation as a beacon of democracy in Africa.

President Mahama emphasised that such leadership qualities were essential for the continued growth and unity of the country.

“In times of political contest, it is easy for tempers to flare, but your decision to concede swiftly helped guide us through a critical period in Ghana’s democratic journey,” he added.

President Mahama concluded his speech by appealing to all political leaders to continue prioritising the well-being of the nation above personal or party interests.

“May Ghana’s democracy remain a shining example for the world,” he noted.
