A confrontation between police and a group attempting to steal gold at the Newmont mining site in Ntotroso has resulted in the deaths of three individuals and injuries to four others.

The Ghana Police Service managed to restore calm following the security breach at the mining site on the night of January 8, 2025.

The Inspector-General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, quickly intervened, coordinating with the Regional Police team throughout the night.

Efforts were made to engage with community leaders and the youth to reduce tensions and prevent further violence or retaliation.

Thanks to these efforts, the situation in Ntotroso has now been stabilised.

The necessary legal processes are being followed, and the bodies of the deceased will be released to their families for burial on January 9, 2025.

The police have called on the public to remain calm and cooperate with the ongoing investigation.
