The police have declared Ms. Karen Baaba Sam wanted for unlawful child removal.
This declaration follows a bench warrant issued by the Achimota District Court for her arrest by the police.
Ms Sam, 29 years, and a native of Dormaa in the Bono Region, is wanted by the Intelligence Unit of the Criminal Investigation Department to assist it to investigate a case of unlawful child removal.
Ms Sam has been embroiled in a tussle over the right to take custody of her daughter with the girl’s father for some time now.
Despite an earlier order by the family tribunal for her to give custody of the child to the father, she has refused to comply.
Consequently, a juvenile court in Accra ordered the Commander of the CID Division of the Ghana Police Service, Headquarters Accra, to prevent her from travelling out of the country with her four-and-half-year-old daughter (name withheld).
The court presided by Ms Bernice Mensimah Ackon also ordered the Director General of the Ghana Immigration Service to prevent Ms Sam from travelling out of the country with the girl.
According to the facts of the case, presented by the Police is that on April 3, 2017, Mr Kwabena Adjei entered into a relationship with Karen and they practically lived together as husband and wife until the birth of their four-and-a half year old girl.
However, somewhere in 2021/2022, Mr Adjei, who is also the applicant observed a change in the Ms Sam’s behaviour, and also allegations of amorous relationship.
Despite this development, Mr Adjei, was slow in confronting Ms Sam, however, when he finally confronted Ms Karen about the allegations she denied them.
According to the facts of the case, somewhere in February 2024, while Mr Adjei was out of the country for a medical check-up, Ms Sam called and suggested to him that she wanted to take the children out of Accra to a beach resort for which he obliged and transferred GH¢50,000.00 to her for their benefit and use.
However, Ms Sam did not use the money for the intended purpose.
Mr Adjei returned to Ghana and decided to also spend time with the children at Big Blue Resort and while at the resort, their daughter (name withheld) identified the place where Ms Sam engaged in indecent acts.
Their daughter confirmed seeing her mother and another man smoking incessantly during their stay at the Resort and when Mr Adjei finally confronted her, she quickly packed her belongings and abandoned the house leaving the children with him.
