GCB Bank PLC has announced the appointment of Farihan Alhassan as its new Managing Director, effective 28 January 2025. His appointment follows the mutual and amicable departure of the immediate past Managing Director, Mr Kofi Adomakoh.

The Board of Directors has approved Mr Alhassan’s nomination and appointment, which is subject to shareholders’ approval at the forthcoming Annual General Meeting, as well as regulatory clearance from the Bank of Ghana and other relevant bodies.

At 44 years old, Mr Alhassan is a seasoned financial expert with a distinguished 20-year career in the banking sector. Prior to joining GCB, he served as the Executive responsible for the Business & Commercial Clients Unit at Stanbic Bank Ghana, where he led the Bank’s commercial banking strategy and optimised business performance across the nation.

Notably, Mr Alhassan’s rapid rise within the banking industry began at just 26, when he made history as the youngest Regional Manager at Barclays Bank (now Absa). He later served as Head of Retail and Distribution, where his people-centred leadership and focus on performance left a lasting impact on the institution.

Throughout his career, Mr Alhassan has gained widespread recognition for his visionary leadership and strategic expertise. He is credited with transforming underperforming units, driving business growth, and building resilient organisations. His core competencies include business development, operational management, credit and risk oversight, and dynamic leadership.

An advocate for team development, Mr Alhassan leverages his skills in coaching, training, and team building to empower employees and foster collaboration. His interpersonal and problem-solving abilities have enabled him to deliver value in fast-paced and competitive environments.

Reflecting on his appointment in a GCB press release, Mr Alhassan expressed his commitment to shaping the future of banking in Ghana, stating his eagerness to empower businesses and drive sustainable growth.

GCB Bank PLC, established in 1953, is a cornerstone of Ghana’s financial sector. With 184 branches, 340 ATMs, and an extensive network of banking agents, GCB has consistently played a key role in sectors such as agriculture, oil and gas, and commerce.
