Outgoing Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has assured Ghanaians that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will hold the incoming Mahama-led administration accountable for all the promises made during the 2024 election campaign.

On Thursday, December 19, Mr Afenyo-Markin emphasised the NPP’s commitment to being a constructive and responsible opposition.

He stated, “We will give the NDC our full support to form their government and assume power, but we will hold them accountable for the promises they made to the good people of Ghana.”

He further highlighted the NPP’s readiness to support any policies or initiatives that align with national progress but warned that his party would not hesitate to demand transparency.

Afenyo-Markin congratulated the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on their victory in the elections, but he also used the moment to rally his party members to reflect and rebuild.

“I must say the time has come for the NPP to come together. Don’t be too excited about our fall now, because you will face the same challenges,” he said, cautioning the NDC against complacency.

“The New Patriotic Party will bounce back from this defeat,” he said on 3FM’s Sunrise show. “We have faced challenges before, and this is another opportunity for us to regroup and return even stronger”.

Afenyo-Markin’s comments come as the nation transitions to a new government, with heightened expectations for accountability and delivery on campaign promises.
