The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has assured Ghanaians of his dedication to ensuring peace in the country before, during, and after the upcoming December 7, 2024, general elections.

During an engagement with the Ghana National Council of Private Schools (GNACOPS), who paid a courtesy call on him in Parliament to promote peace and unity during the election, the Speaker emphasised that his commitment to peace in the country is unwavering.

He assured the group that the election would be free, fair, credible, and peaceful, according to a report by 3news.com.

“I’m more than committed to the peace of this nation,” Alban Bagbin is quoted as saying.

He highlighted his efforts to promote peace, including organising a seminar in Tamale as part of the 30th anniversary of Ghana’s parliamentary democracy celebrations, where experts helped the public appreciate the peace the country enjoys.

The Speaker further noted, “The foundation of life is peace,” and mentioned Parliament’s introduction of the Democracy Cup initiative, which uses football, the nation’s passion, as a tool to spread the message of peace.

The GNACOPS delegation, comprising teachers and pupils from selected private schools and led by its National Executive Director, Obento Nana Kwasi Gyetuah, encouraged Speaker Bagbin to use his influence to ensure peace during the upcoming polls.

They also commended him for his achievements and contributions to Ghana’s democratic journey, having served in Parliament since the inception of the Fourth Republic.
