The Vice President and Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, turned the Mallam Atta Market in Accra upside down Tuesday morning when he visited.
Traders there were on cloud nine as they rolled the red carpet for Bawumia and cheerfully welcomed him to the market.
As Dr. Bawumia arrived in the company of the MP for the area, Henry Quartey, who is also the Minister for Interior, the traders, both men and women, could not hide their excitement and open support for the Vice President.
They chanted his name and his ‘It Is Possible’ slogan, shaking and hugging him in excitement. As Dr. Bawumia moved from one shelve to the other to exchange greetings with the traders, many who could not wait for their turn impatiently rushed to mob him.
Some even went to the extent of laying on the floor for him in an absolute show of support for the Vice President, who is seeking to be elected President next month as the term of President Akufo-Addo ends.
The reception was no different on the streets of the market, as taxi drivers also enthusiastically welcomed him.
So characteristic of his campaign, Bawumia displayed energy, enthusiasm and humility as he freely exchanged greetings with all in sight and even went to the extent of kneeling down to hug the physically challenged who yearned for his hug but could not stand up to do so.
Dr. Bawumia is on the final lap of his campaign, having toured nearly all constituencies in the 16 regions.
