One person has reportedly died following a renewed chieftaincy and land-related clash between two Konkomba factions at Gbingbani in the North East Region.
At least 10 houses were also torched in the latest clashes.
The District Chief Executive, Konlan Bitian, who confirmed the incident, said the violence started around midnight on Friday after unidentified armed men launched an attack.
“We were hit with the sad news this morning [Saturday] that the community is on fire again,” the DCE revealed, adding that several houses had been burnt down.
The DCE said the men had deserted the community after the violence, leaving behind women and children.
According to him, although police had been deployed to the area, there were reports that some armed men in Jejung, a village under Chereponi, were planning more attacks in Gbingbani.
“Just this morning, we had an intelligence that men are gathering in a nearby community, Jujung, in the Chereponi district to attack the Gbingbani community,” Konlan alleged.
Although the immediate cause of the recent violence is not known, the DCE believes that it was linked to a longstanding chieftaincy and land disagreement between the feuding factions.
For years, there has been a longstanding chieftaincy and land dispute between the Konkomba factions.
This has led to several clashes in the past, with both sides recording deaths, injuries and the destruction of properties running into several thousands of Ghana cedis.
In March, two persons were killed while a large number of properties, including tractors and tipper trucks, were set on fire and obliterated in a renewed clash between the factions.
