The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has disbursed 587,236.00 cedis to six major healthcare providers across the country.
The payment marks the first month of implementation under the government’s new initiative aimed at supporting patients undergoing chronic dialysis treatment.
In a press statement issued on Sunday, June 30 and signed by the CEO, Dr. Da-Costa Aboagye, the NHIA assured that they will ensure prompt payment for this coverage, reinforcing their commitment to supporting vulnerable patients in need of dialysis treatment.
“In line with this new initiative, the six providers namely Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), Cape Coast Teaching Hospital (CCTH), Efia Nkwanta Regional Hospital (ENRH), Ho Teaching Hospital (HTH), Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH), and Korle Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH) all submitted their respective list of chronic dialysis patients that received treatment in June and have subsequently been paid of a total amount of GHS 587,236.00, marking the first month of the implementation of Government’s critical support to these patients,” portions of the press release said.
It will be recalled that the Chief Executive Officer of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Dr Aboagye Da-Costa, disclosed that his outfit would begin its intended support for dialysis treatment on June 1, 2024.
According to the NHIA CEO, the support will be implemented over six months.
This move follows parliament’s approval of GH₵2 million to assist patients requiring dialysis in various parts of the country.
Explaining the modality of implementation, Dr Aboagye said that the authority would cover two sessions for each of these patients, who total about 600, from June to the last day of December 2024.
