COP George Alex Mensah, one of the senior police officers implicated in the plot to oust the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr George Akuffo-Dampare, has made a shocking pronouncement, describing his boss as the worst IGP the country has ever had.
According to COP Mensah, with the current IGP at the helm of affairs of the police administration, the service is headed in the wrong direction.
“Honourable member and honourable chair, what I said yesterday, if you give me the opportunity today, I will say it again. For me, for the 31 years I have been in the service, he [Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr George Akuffo-Dampare] is the worst IGP ever,” he said on Friday, September 1, 2023.
It was a repeat of several comments he made against IGP Dampare when he appeared on the previous day before the same committee.
COP Alex Mensah reiterated his strong displeasure with the work of the current IGP.
“Honourable chair, I will not deny that fact today, tomorrow or the next day. I will make that statement again that the current Inspector General of Police is not managing the police service well.”
According to him, Dr Dampare has gagged members of the police hierarchy and is not open to dissenting opinions.
COP Alex Mensah, who is on leave pending retirement, disclosed that he had been lobbying since 2017 to be appointed as the IGP.
However, he was not successful.
