WINNING an award or even a nomination at the Black Entertainment Television Awards (BET) is such a big deal for most musicians.

The enviable annual award, since its inception in 2001, gets all the attention it needs due to the weight it carries.

All the big names in the music industry worldwide can be associated with the scheme and Ghana is proud to have won two BET awards, with Stonebwoy and Sarkodie in the category of Best International Flow and Best International Act.

Last week, Sugarcane hitmaker Camidoh lost his first BET award after missing out on the 2023 BET Viewer’s Choice: Best New International Act award to Cameroon’s Libianca.

In addition to the two artistes who have won awards, close to 10 GH artistes have had nominations at the BET awards and Graphic Showbiz is proud to present them here.

Regarded as one of Ghana’s finest musicians, Kojo Antwi received a BET Awards nomination in the Best International Act category in 2010. His nomination underscored his influential status as a trailblazer in Ghanaian music.

Known for his soulful melodies and captivating performances, Antwi’s music has resonated with audiences in Ghana and beyond. He is known for songs such as Nfa Me Nko Ho, Amirika, Adiepena, Medofo Pa, Bra, among others.

Black Sherif

Black Sherif’s nomination in the BET Hip Hop Award in 2023 brought a lot of excitement as a young rising star who is receiving all the buzz for his works.

Black Sherif’s nomination demonstrated his rising prominence in the Hip-Hop genre, both locally and internationally. The Kwaku The Traveller hitmaker won Artiste of the Year at this year’s Vodafone Ghana Music Award.

Sarkodie

Michael Owusu Addo, popularly known as Sarkodie, is the first musician in Ghana to have won BET’s Best International Flow in 2019.

In his acceptance speech, the two-time Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) Artiste of the Year said: “I just want to say thank you to the Almighty God. To my family, this one is for my lil girl Titi….
