The Northern Regional Police have arrested five persons in connection with the lynching of two persons over witchcraft accusations at Zakpalsi in the Mion District.
About 12 people allegedly lynched the two, a man and a woman, in May 2023.
According to sources in the community, the two were accused of ‘buying’ sickness for a woman in the community after a soothsayer who was consulted by the woman’s family was called in.
The youth mobilized to the man’s house and lynched him.
They chased the woman, a mother of seven, to the chief’s palace, where she was also lynched.
The suspects later fled from the community to avoid getting arrested.
The police, on the other hand, kept a close eye on the community until the night of Wednesday, July 19, when they invaded and arrested five suspects.
The suspects are currently in the custody of the Northern Regional Police.
Meanwhile, Ya-Na Abukari II, Overlord of Dagbon, has condemned the lynching, insisting that such acts have no justification in the traditional area.
He said, “No one has the right to take the life of another man”.
