A National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary aspirant for the Weija Gbawe constituency, Felix Odartey Lamptey, has organised a women empowerment programme to provide skills training for branch women organisers of the party and other women within the constituency.

The event held on 26th March 2023 was targeted at improving the well-being of the people within the constituency as participants were taken through various skill training programmes, including the production of liquid soap and other detergents, table setting, and ice-cream making.

Participants were awarded certificates after the training.

According to the former Weija-Gbawe Constituency Secretary, women’s economic empowerment sets a direct path towards gender equality, poverty eradication and inclusive economic growth.

He believes such programmes are essential in elevating the status and participation of women in national development.

Speaking at the training programme, he reiterated his desire to empower many within the Weija-Gbawe Constituency, as this forms part of the many initiatives he intends to implement in the coming years.

He further appealed to the party delegates to give him the nod as the parliamentary candidate as he believes he is the best candidate to deliver and win the parliamentary seat for the NDC in 2024.

According to Mr Odartey Lamptey, the major consideration for the NDC in 2024 will be to elect a parliamentary candidate who can win over neutrals to win the seat for the first time.

The Weija-Gbawe Constituency is currently held by the New Patriotic Party’s Tina Naa Ayeley Mensah, who will likely seek re-election.
