The Otumfuo Commemorative Gold Coin (OCGC) project is instituting measures for the formation of a task force to combat illegal gold mining ( galamsey) in the Ashanti Region. The task force, to be known as “Asanteman Task Force Against Illegal Mining”, will be a corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative of the Otumfuo Commemorative Gold Coin. The North-East Regional Director of the Ghana Health Service (GHS), Dr Abdulai Abukari, has expressed concern about the high rate of teenage pregnancies in the Region. He said the GHS noticed that high rate of teenage pregnancies was recorded among women at Ante-Natal Clinics (ANC) in the Region, which stood at 15.0 per cent in 2022, the highest in the country as against 15.9 per cent in 2021. The Asante Bekwai Circuit Court has granted a GHC300,000.00 bail with three sureties each to 12 Chinese nationals accused of illegal mining also known as ‘Galemsey’. The Court presided over by Mr Mark Tair-ima Diboro ordered that one of the three sureties each, should be justified with a landed property. All the sureties should be Ghanaians living within the jurisdiction of the Court. At least 19 refugees and migrants from sub-Saharan Africa have drowned off the coast of Tunisia while trying to cross the Mediterranean and reach Italy, according to a human rights group. International Monetary Fund chief Kristalina Georgieva said on Sunday that risks to financial stability have increased and called for continued vigilance although actions by advanced economies have calmed market stress.
