A driver who stole mobile phones from a journalist and two others in Sakumono, Community 17, has appeared before an Accra Circuit Court. Kwabena Gyimah, also known as “69,” was caught on CCTV footage installed in the journalist’s home, showing him committing the theft. The Accra Circuit Court Three has sentenced 25-year-old Liberian national Daniel Ireland to 10 years in prison with hard labour for robbing a Bolt driver of his vehicle. Ireland and his 18-year-old American lover, Skylah Leeann Marine Travis, admitted to conspiring to rob the driver and were convicted based on their own pleas. However, the sentence for Travis was deferred pending the results of a pregnancy test. She will return to court on January 20, 2025, for sentencing. The Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS) has described the current feeding fee of GH₵ 7.50p for students in Senior High Schools (SHSs) as inadequate. According to the National Secretary of CHASS, Primus Baro, the amount is not enough to feed a student for a day. The government currently allocates GH₵ 7.50 pesewas per student for three meals a day at secondary schools. A police constable and three Community Assistance Police (CAP) officers were attacked by thugs on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at Akrofuom, within the Obuasi Divisional Police Command, while attempting to arrest a suspect, Sibuba, for threatening to cause harm to a complainant. The thugs, numbering about 50 and wielding various weapons, assaulted the officers, leaving them severely beaten, and seized an AK47 rifle belonging to the police constable.
