The National Commission on Civic Education (NCCE) yesterday held a stakeholders engagement on fighting violent extremism and terrorism in Accra. The conversation was held around how to prevent violent extremism in the country. The engagement is part of a series being funded by the European Union under the Preventing and Containing Extremism (PCUE) project. A government plan to slash waiting times for migrants’ asylum claims has sparked anger at what some have called an “amnesty in all but name”. Some 12,000 migrants from Afghanistan, Syria, Eritrea, Libya and Yemen, who have applied for asylum in the UK and are waiting for a decision, will be sent a questionnaire that could be used to decide their claims in a bid to cut the soaring backlog of cases. Tesco and Aldi have become the latest supermarket chains to limit purchases of veg including tomatoes, peppers and cucumbers. Customers will be allowed to buy a maximum of three packs at Aldi, the chain announced today. A TV journalist has been shot dead while reporting from the scene of a separate but linked fatal shooting in Florida. The journalist was covering the death of a 20-year-old woman after a shooting in Pine Hills, Florida. At around the same time, police rushed to another home, where they found another 20-year-old woman and nine-year-old girl had been shot. The girl later died in hospital. Police are believed to be hunting a group of masked men after an off-duty police officer was shot multiple times while he was coaching young children to play football. A team from the Forestry Commission and the military has confiscated about 25,000 pieces of illegal wood from the Krokosue Hill Forest Reserve in the Juaboso-Bia forest district in the Western North Region.
