Pupils at Galilea M/A Basic School in Ga South have been left helpless again after Geos Anointing Construction Company locked down their classroom block due to unpaid government debts.
This follows a similar situation in October 2024, which stemmed from the contractor’s frustration over delayed payment six years after completing the six-unit classroom block.
The project began in 2017 and was completed in 2019, but the company has yet to receive payment.
According to the Public Relations Officer of the company, Christopher Newman, the Member of Parliament (MP), Sylvester Mensah, and the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Joseph Stephen Nyarni, appealed to them for a two-week ultimatum for redress following the first lockup.
However, no payment has been made since October.
The company has explained that repeated attempts to secure the owed funds from the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) had been unsuccessful.
This time, it has warned the Ghana Education Service (GES) against forcibly reopening the facility, stating that any such action would result in legal consequences.
“We made efforts, but they kept calling today, they would ask for this document. We would produce it. The next day, they would ask for another document. We would produce it. We keep speaking to them, and there is no sign of us getting our money.
“So our message is simple. The GES must be cautioned that this property does not belong to them. If they come back to it, it means they’ll be occupying it illegally, and we refer to them as squatters. And so they should take note. If we come and they are back in the classroom, we’re going to need to take legal action against them,” a representative of the company cautioned.
