The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, is in Oguaa (Cape Coast) for a historic visit to the coastal traditional area.
This comes after the Asantehene accepted the invitation of the Oguaa Traditional Council to be the guest speaker at the Oguaa Fetu Afahye Grand Durbar scheduled for Saturday, September 7, 2024.
The festival, which typically takes place in the first week of September, is one of the most significant cultural events in Ghana’s Central Region. This year’s celebration marks the 60th anniversary of the festival.
Videos shared by the Royal Palace Multimedia showed the Asantehene and his entourage’s journey to Oguaa – from the departure at Manhyia Palace to the reception at the Emintsimadze Palace on Thursday, September 6, 2024.
The Asantehene’s departure from Kumasi, as usual, was grand. The king’s convoy had more than 10 Land Cruisers plus other vehicles, which were led by at least three police motorcades.
Then came the Asantehene’s arrival at Emintsimadze Palace. The king was received by a young girl with a beautiful bouquet.
The presentation of the bouquet was followed by a performance from a young member of the Asafo group, who perhaps stole the show at the Otumfuo’s arrival.
The Asantehene himself was delighted as he watched the young boy display, with a red and white Asafo flag.
After the performance, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and his counterpart, the Oguaamanhene, Osabarimba Kwesi Atta II, with smiles beaming all over their faces, shook hands and engaged in a warm embrace.
