From having a dance party to reciting affirmations together, here are a few ways to have a calming morning routine.
Parenting is tricky. While we ensure to provide the best of everything for our children, we also need to ensure that we teach them the values and skills required to navigate through life. A calming morning routine should be set with the child so that we can feel safe and relaxed throughout the day.
“Routines in general can be tricky but morning routines especially because there tends to be a time crunch. So much to do in so little time. This is your gentle reminder to make sure to infuse short bursts of connection to help reduce stress and cut back on power struggles,” wrote Psychologist Jazmine McCoy.
Instead of rushing in the morning, we can take a few minutes and slow down before we start. We can snuggle with our children in bed for an extra five minutes.
While snuggling with them in bed, we can talk about the things we feel gratitude for, and the things we look forward to for the day.
When we step outside, we can hold hands while coming down the stairs, or walking down the street.
While doing the hair of the child, we can recite a few affirmations together. These episodes can help in deepening connection.
Before having breakfast, we can have ten minutes of a game. Or we can have a random dance party at home.
