The Director General of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Maj. Rtd. Dr. Joseph Bikanyi Kuyon, has assured the public that the organization is fully prepared for any potential disasters during the 2025 rainy season.
Dr. Kuyon emphasized NADMO’s commitment to proactive disaster management, highlighting the agency’s collaboration with key institutions such as the Ghana Meteorological Service and the Hydrological Service.
“NADMO is ready—very ready—because we understand the challenges the rainy season can bring. We don’t wait until the flood comes. We prepare in advance,” he stated.
Ghana has consistently faced flooding and other rain-related disasters during past rainy seasons, raising public concerns over the government’s readiness.
Dr. Kuyon responded to these concerns by outlining the measures already in place to manage and minimize the impact of potential disasters.
He explained that NADMO has trained and equipped its response teams in anticipation of emergencies.
“We monitor trends, train our staff, mobilize resources, and prepare our equipment ahead of time,” he added.
Beyond emergency response, NADMO is also taking physical measures such as dredging and desilting of drains and water bodies to reduce flood risks.
Speaking on Sunday, April 13, 2025, Dr. Kuyon noted the importance of public awareness and staff sensitization as part of their comprehensive approach to disaster preparedness.
“Aside from logistics and personnel, conscientizing our teams and educating the public are crucial in managing disasters effectively,” he concluded.
With these efforts, NADMO hopes to significantly reduce the impact of floods and related incidents in the coming months.
