The Staff Union of the National Service Authority (NSA), operating under the banner of the National Service Authority Staff Union (NASASU), has issued a strong condemnation of what it describes as increasing political interference in the Authority’s operations.
In a statement released on April 11, 2025, and signed by NASASU Chairman Ayirebi Adubofour, the Union expressed deep concern over attempts by political party foot soldiers to unduly influence recruitment and internal staff transfers.
“This trend is a direct threat to democratic governance, damages public confidence, and compromises the credibility of vital state institutions,” the statement emphasized.
NASASU stressed that all internal staffing decisions must strictly follow the National Service Authority Act 2024 (Act 1119), the Public Services Commission Act 1994 (Act 482), and Article 195 of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana.
Addressing recent reports of political tension in the Western Region, the Union called on the youth to remain calm and allow the Authority’s leadership to operate within the bounds of the law.
NASASU further urged NSA Management to uphold transparency and respect the legal frameworks that govern public service.
The Union also appealed to the government to protect the National Service Authority from partisan manipulation and advised political parties to avoid using the institution for their political agendas.
In closing, NASASU reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism and called on all stakeholders to safeguard the Authority’s independence and ensure that its statutory duties remain free from political interference.
