The Chairman of the NPP UK branch, Kingsley Adumattah Agyapong, popularly known as Wofa K, has asked President John Dramani Mahama to, with immediate effect, declare a state of emergency in the areas affected by the illegal mining activities.
He posited that just as he (the president) asked former President Akufo-Addo to declare the state of emergency, he should do so now, because he now wields the power.
Speaking with Sir Richie, host of ‘As it is in Ghana’ on Rainbow Radio 92.4FM, UK, and Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, he described galamsey as a threat to national security and life.

He stated that when President Mahama, then in opposition, told former President Akufo-Addo to declare a state of emergency, he wanted him (Nana Addo) to deploy soldiers to fight the illegal miners and shoot them to death. He now has power. The military should be sent to illegal mining areas to combat them. Illegal mining is a war, and our soldiers must combat the illegal miners.
Wofa K maintained that the military should be deployed to fight them. Everyone should support this statement because illegal mining is a war. President Mahama expected Akufo-Addo to fight and kill the illegal miners. He now wields power, so he should carry out his wishes for Akufo-Addo.
He said, ”No matter who is involved in illegal mining, they have to be stopped because they are destroying our water bodies.”
He admitted that Ghanaians kicked the NPP out because it could not deal with galamsey, and so ’’the NDC has the opportunity to deal with this canker. I am saying it again: I am the NPP UK Chairman, and I am asking the President of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, to declare a state of emergency in our galamsey-prone areas. Every area affected by galamsey should be cordoned off. We are at war. Let the soldiers go to war”.
