The Minister of State for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has disclosed that the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) is waiting for Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin’s approval to release Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, the Assin South Member of Parliament (MP), to assist in investigations over allegations of drug trafficking and money laundering.
This follows serious claims made by Fordjour, who alleged that two aircraft recently landed in Ghana carrying illegal drugs and large sums of cash.
According to Kwakye Ofosu, the NIB formally wrote to Speaker Bagbin, seeking permission to question Fordjour, but as of now, the Speaker has yet to respond to the request.
“The NIB wrote to the Speaker to release Ntim Fordjour for questioning. As far as I am aware, the Speaker has not yet responded. Once he does, the MP will be available for questions,” Kwakye Ofosu explained.
Fordjour made the allegations on April 1, and by the following day, aviation and security agencies had submitted their reports.
These reports detailed the activities surrounding the arrival and departure of the aircraft. Despite the gravity of the claims, Kwakye Ofosu revealed that the investigations found no evidence of any criminal wrongdoing.
He also confirmed that the findings were supported by official documentation that proved no illegal activities occurred on the flights in question.
In light of these developments, Kwakye Ofosu emphasized the need for transparency and public accountability in the matter.
He strongly suggested that the interrogation of Fordjour, once it takes place, should be made public.
“I have requested that the interrogation be released to the public,” he said.
The Speaker of Parliament, however, has yet to provide a formal response to the NIB’s request, leaving the case in a state of public uncertainty.
The matter continues to generate significant attention, given the serious nature of the allegations and the potential implications for the MP and the broader political landscape.
