A devastating fire outbreak at the Tema Community 1 Market in the Greater Accra Region has destroyed many shops, with traders counting their losses.
This occurred in the early morning of Thursday, April 3, 2025.
An update from the Ghana National Fire Service on their Facebook page revealed that approximately 100 shops had been destroyed by the fire.
The GNFS reported that they received the first distress call at 2:32 AM, with their first fire engine reaching the scene just nine minutes later, at 2:41 AM.
Personnel from the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and the Ghana Police Service arrived at 3:23 AM to assist by isolating power in the surrounding area and maintaining security.
Two (2) fire pumps are currently at the scene, though heavy smoke is affecting firefighting operations.
Although no injuries have been recorded as a result of the fire, firefighters have yet to ascertain its cause.
Efforts are underway to douse the fire and prevent it from spreading.
This unfortunate incident comes after an inferno destroyed several shops at Adum PZ Market in the heart of the Central Business District of Kumasi.
The fire originated in a two-storey building accommodating several businesses and quickly spread throughout the area, causing significant destruction.
Beginning around 5 a.m. at the well-known Blue Light Arena, located near Hello FM, the blaze intensified as firefighters worked to manage the situation.
The firefighters in the Ashanti Region attributed the rapid spread of the Adum Market fire to the severe congestion in the area, which significantly hindered the team’s access to the affected shops.
