Ghanaian gospel group Alabaster Box has issued a legal warning to rapper Medikal, also known as Samuel Adu Frimpong, accusing him of copyright infringement.
According to the group’s lawyers, Medikal’s recently released song, Welcome to Africa, includes an unauthorized sample from Alabaster Box’s hit song Akwaaba.
In a formal letter, the legal team asserts that the first 10 seconds of Welcome to Africa directly reproduce elements from Akwaaba.
They also highlight that both the title and lyrical content of Medikal’s song bear strong resemblances to the original work, reinforcing their claim that it is derivative.
Alabaster Box further alleges that Medikal’s widespread promotion and digital distribution of the track have exacerbated the infringement.
As a result, they are demanding the immediate takedown of the song from all platforms, including streaming services and radio.
The group also insists on a full halt to any related marketing, performances, or business engagements involving the song.
Additionally, they are calling for Medikal to provide a detailed account of any revenue earned and reveal all individuals or entities involved in promoting or distributing the track.
Should Medikal fail to meet these demands, Alabaster Box has made it clear they will pursue legal action.
As of now, Medikal has not publicly addressed the accusations.
