Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Ablekuma West, has lost her parliamentary seat in the just-concluded general elections.
The incumbent MP was defeated by Rev. Kweku Addo, the candidate for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Ursula secured 26,575 votes, while Rev. Addo garnered 31,866 votes, marking a significant victory for the NDC in the constituency.
This loss signifies a major political shift in Ablekuma West, a constituency that has long been considered a stronghold for the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The outcome is also part of what appears to be a broader reshuffling within Ghana’s Parliament following the December 7 elections.
Observers have noted that this result reflects changing dynamics in voter preferences, signalling potential challenges for the ruling party as it navigates the post-election landscape.
Rev. Kweku Addo’s victory underscores the NDC’s ability to make inroads in areas previously dominated by the NPP.
As the dust settles, Ursula’s defeat will likely prompt discussions about the factors contributing to this upset and its implications for the political balance in Ghana’s Parliament.
