Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has appealed to Ghanaians to maintain peace and uphold democratic values during the upcoming December 7 polls.
In an interaction with some journalists on Sunday, November 17, Mr Kufuor underscored the importance of maintaining calm during the voting process to safeguard Ghana’s democracy.
He expressed hope for a smooth electoral process, reminding citizens that ultimate power lies with the people and that unity and peace should prevail during and after the elections.
“It is essential for everyone to line up calmly to exercise their voting rights on election day. Electoral violence is unacceptable, and I hope for a peaceful election process.
“We must acknowledge that genuine power resides with the populace, and it is crucial to accept the results, regardless of personal preferences. I urge all participants to prioritize peace during this election.”
Ghana’s elections are scheduled for December 7.
Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and former president John Dramani Mahama are the two leading candidates in contention to win the poll.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, first elected in 2016, is coming to the end of his second and final four-year term.
