Virgin Atlantic has declared its return to Ghana, set to relaunch flights between Accra and London Heathrow.
Marking the first resumption since 2013, daily flights from Kotoka International Airport will begin in May 2025, offering much-needed competition and choice for this route.
The service is designed to meet the growing demand for visiting friends and relatives. The UK hosts the world’s third-largest Ghanaian diaspora, and customers are anticipated to use London as a connecting hub to Virgin Atlantic’s US destinations, including New York, Boston, Washington DC, Miami, and Los Angeles.
Scheduled to commence on 1st May 2025, the daily flights will utilize a combination of A330-300 and A330-900neo aircraft, featuring Upper Class, Premium, and Economy Delight, Classic, and Light cabins, along with an onboard social space.
Accra is poised to become a significant cargo route, with Virgin Atlantic planning to offer 30 tonnes of capacity per flight, transporting commodities like fresh produce between Ghana and principal markets in the UK and US.
Juha Jarvinen, Chief Commercial Officer at Virgin Atlantic, stated, “With the UK housing the third-largest Ghanaian diaspora globally, we see immense opportunities to connect friends, relatives, and businesses through our new service, while also introducing more competition and options for the Accra to London route.
“We eagerly anticipate our 2025 launch, eager to reintroduce Ghanaians to the iconic Virgin Atlantic brand and our award-winning service, brought to life by our exceptional team.”
