Leicester City midfielder Hamza Choudhury – who reportedly spent £250,000 on cars in one day – has been charged with drink driving.
The footballer was pulled over by police in the early hours of Friday in Nottingham.
It is believed the 26-year-old was arrested at the scene after refusing to take a breathalyser test.
Choudhury has since been charged with driving while over the alcohol limit, driving without due care and attention, and failing to co-operate with a preliminary test.
He is currently out on bail and due to appear in court on February 23.
The midfielder who lives in Rushcliffe, Nottingham, played in last night’s 1-1 draw against Ipswich Town.
Choudhury, who reportedly earns £50,000 a week, played more than 50 Premiership games and won the FA Cup with Leicester City before the team was relegated to the Championship last year.
Once seen as a potential England team contender, it’s believed he spent a total of £250,000 on a Bentley Bentayga and a Range Rover on the same day in 2022.
In 2021 he and three of his then teammates were heavily criticised and dropped from a match after attending a party during a Covid lockdown.
And in 2019 he was fined £5,000 by the FA and made to take part in a training course after offensive social media posts, posted sometime before, were brought to light.
A Nottingham Police spokesperson told the Metro: ‘Officers pulled over a vehicle in Loughborough Road, West Bridgford, Nottingham, around 1.45am on Friday 19 January 2024.
‘A man was arrested on suspicion of refusing to provide a specimen of breath.
‘Hamza Choudhury, aged 26, of Rushcliffe, Nottinghamshire, has since been charged with driving while over the alcohol limit, driving without due care and attention, and failing to co-operate with a preliminary test
‘He was released on unconditional bail and is next due to appear at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on 23 February 2024.’
Leicester City FC declined to comment.
