The Ahafo Regional Executives of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) have welcomed the decision by former Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Joe Ghartey, to contest the upcoming presidential primary of the party.
The former minister over the weekend was given a homecoming reception when he stormed the Ahafo Region to canvas for votes and announce formally to the Regional Executives that he was contesting for the NPP flagbearership.
Mr. Ghartey reminded the gathering about his close relationship with the region over the years.
This was confirmed by several of the Regional Executives and they reminded the gathering of Ghartey’s support for the region over 20 years.
He gave an account of what he had done in public life when he was allowed to serve Ghana.
He said all his public service had been by the kind courtesy of the NPP and he would forever be grateful to the party for the opportunity.
He also said that his role as Attorney General and Minister for Justice, as Deputy Speaker, and as Minister for Railways Development had more than prepared him for the task ahead.
He explained that the railways sector came to the fore in the discussion and it was agreed that the development of transport infrastructure, including the railway sector was a game changer and would transform the country.
After his presentation where he described the kind of government and governance he would practice, those present applauded him for his humility and sincerity.
However, they appealed to him not to forget about them when God blesses him.
Joe Ghartey assured them that in the Super Delegates Congress, he would emerge among the first five and go on to win the November contest for flagbearer.
He further assured that every part of Ghana, including the Ahafo Region will get his full attention as President.
He thanked them for their kind reception and asked them to remember him in their prayers.
