THE NATIONAL Democratic Congress (NDC) Youth Organiser for Suame, Razak Koampa Avoliya, has been caged by the Suntreso Police for offensive conduct.
He was captured in a viral video charging NDC members in Suame to violently attack any New Patriotic Party (NPP) member who would misbehave during the 2024 polls.
Koampa Avoliya, who instigated NDC party members on Sunday, surrendered himself to the police yesterday to help assist in investigations.
According to reports reaching the DAILY GUIDE, the suspect would definitely be dragged to court today on provisional charge of ‘offensive conduct’.
Public Condemnation
Koampa Avoliya’s weird comments instantly sparked wide condemnation from the public, who urged the police to go all out and apprehend the loose-talk NDC man to face the law.
They said the NDC official’s comments were meant to incite his party members to indulge in violent acts and destroy the peace and security in the country.
Lawyers’ Comments
Meanwhile, lawyers of Koampa Avoliya have vehemently debunked assertions that their client planned to incite his party people to violently attack NPP members in Suame.
They explained that their client said NDC members in Suame were usually attacked by NPP members during polls, so he was telling them to protect themselves in the 2024 polls.
“He urged the NDC members to fortify themselves by defending themselves against NPP violent acts in 2024. He was not inciting the NDC members to start violence.”
The lawyers also indicated that some people were trying to misconstrue what Koampa Avoliya said, stressing that their client had no intentions of disturbing the country’s peace.
NDC Statement
In a related development, Joseph Yammin, the NDC National Organiser, was among the scores of NDC members who stormed the police station to support their colleague.
He said the police could not intimidate the NDC, noting that he had a recorded video of some NPP members who issued similar statements, so he was expecting the police to arrest them.
“The NDC would cooperate with the police but we are not going to be intimidated,” he told the media, adding that the NDC would not accept any selective justice tactics.
